posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Sega Sammy Holdings released its financial results on Friday for fiscal year 2017, which ran from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017. The results stated that the revenue share models from operations of the KanColle Arcade game contributed to an increase in earnings in the amusement machine sales field. The company also reported that the strong sales of the new Sangokushi Taisen (Romance of the Three Kingdoms Wars) game contributed.
The operating income of the company's amusement machine sales field was 1.7 billion yen (about US$14.96 million) during fiscal year 2017. The company reported a 100-million-yen (US$880-thousand) deficit in the field for fiscal year 2016. The amusement machine field earned 49.4 billion yen (US$435 million) in net sales during fiscal year 2017, an 18% increase from the previous year.
The KanColle Arcade machines debuted in Japan in April 2016. Sega initially planned a summer 2015 release for the game, and then delayed it to fall. The game was then delayed again to last spring.
Sega Sammy Holdings also revealed in its "Road to 2020" presentation on Monday that the company is planning a "Revival of past IPs and active utilization of external IPs, etc." The plan is part of the company's business strategy to "Create titles that will become global hits." In addition, the company plans to "Expand existing IPs and obtain new IPs for North American and European PC games."
