Bandai Namco Games announced more details on its upcoming Godzilla PlayStation 3 game on Thursday, unveiling Destoroyah, Super Mechagodzilla, and Burning Godzilla.
The new monsters join Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, Ghidorah, Mothra, Jet Jaguar, and the 2014 American version of Godzilla from Gareth Edwards and Legendary Pictures.
In the "ultra-destructive Godzilla action" game, players take on the role of Godzilla and can absorb energy by destroying buildings with Godzilla's iconic attacks. As the players complete missions to destroy civilization, Godzilla will increase size and physical strength. Godzilla starts at 50 meters (164 feet) and can grow to double that size. Players gain points when Godzilla destroys the town, but the resistance from humanity becomes more difficult as the game goes on.
The game will recreate the look of tokusatsu (special effects) movies, including signature tokusatsu camera angles and gunpowder explosions, with the latest graphics.
Famitsu magazine described a backstory that takes its cues from TOHO's first Godzilla movies: Godzilla, who appeared in Tokyo in 1954 and was brought down by the secret weapon Oxygen Destroyer, has somehow made landfall again.
