Anime not so New at Target
posted on by Christopher Macdonald
According to numerous posts on our forum, Target has in fact been carrying anime for quite a while now, but numerous changes in the way Target sells anime are under way.
We checked the details with FUNimation and Viz, the two companies that had spoken to the press about Target and announced that the chain stores were now selling anime.
According to Anthony Jiwa, Anime Product Manager for VIZ, while it is true that Target has been carrying anime in select stores for some time, with their latest reset they expanded the number of stores that carry anime (from about 300 to over 700).
Jeff Dronen of FUNimation explained several anime companies consulted with Target as part of a concerted industry effort to help the chain increase the sale of anime titles at the stores. Amongst their suggestions was the idea that Target create dedicated anime sections as opposed to spreading anime though out its various other section.
The end result, is that Target is increasing the number of stores at which it sells anime, and many or all of the 700 plus stores selling anime will have dedicated anime sections.
