Princess Kaguya, Edge of Tomorrow, Godzilla, Transformers Composers Eligible for Oscars
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
A total of 114 film scores are eligible for the Original Score category at the 87th Academy Awards, including The Tale of the Princess Kaguya's Joe Hisaishi, Edge of Tomorrow's Christophe Beck, Godzilla's Alexandre Desplat, and Transformers: Age of Extinction's Steve Jablonsky.
Kaguya was submitted to the Academy for the Animated Feature Film category. Gareth Edwards' Godzilla film made the Oscar's Visual Effects category shortlist.
Hisaishi composed the score for two Academy Award-winning films — Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away (Best Animated Film in 2003) and Yojiro Takita's live-action film Departures (Best Foreign Language Film in 2009).
Beck previously won Outstanding Achievement in Music in an Animated Feature Production for Disney's Frozen at the Annie Awards last year. The Academy has nominated Desplat for an Oscar six times (Philomena, Argo, The King's Speech, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Queen), but he has not won. Jablonsky has previously won awards at the BMI Film & TV Awards for his work on Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and the first Transformers film.
