Motoka Murakami's Fuichin Tsaichen! Manga to End in Next Volume

Manga tells story of real-life pre-war manga creator Toshiko Ueda in Harbin, Manchuria

The ninth compiled book volume of Motoka Murakami's Fuichin Tsaichen! manga announced on Monday that the series will end in its 10th volume.

The manga is based on the life of real-life manga creator Toshiko Ueda (1917-2008), who chose to pursue the career of a manga creator wholeheartedly in the pre-war era, when drawing manga was not considered a popular career choice. The manga focuses in particular on her time at the then-Manchurian city of Harbin, the setting of her 1957-1962 manga Fuichin-san (pictured below).

Motoka launched the manga in March 2013 in Shogakukan's Big Comic Original magazine, where it is ongoing.

Murakami's historical medical manga Jin inspired two live-action television series, both broadcast on Japan's TBS network and starring Takao Osawa. The series also inspired a Korean live-action television adaptation that aired in 2012, and which Crunchyroll streamed outside of Japan. The manga also received a stage play adaptation from the famous all-female Takarazuka Revue Company in 2012. Murakami's manga concluded its serialization in Shueisha's Super Jump magazine in 2010 and has been collected into 20 volumes.
