Tōken Ranbu: Hanamaru #1 Tops Weekly Animation Blu-ray & DVD Charts
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The first home video volume of the Tōken Ranbu: Hanamaru television anime topped Oricon's animation Blu-ray Disc and DVD charts for the December 12-18 week. The Blu-ray Disc release also ranked #2 on the general Blu-ray Disc chart, while the DVD release ranked #3 on the general DVD chart. Both releases shipped on December 14. The Blu-ray Disc sold 10,358 copies, while the DVD sold 8,718 copies.
The last time that a television anime's home video volume was in the top 3 on both general Blu-ray and DVD charts was this year's release of the first Blu-ray Disc/DVD volume of the Mr. Osomatsu anime in January. That release similarly ranked #2 on the Blu-ray Disc chart, and #3 in the DVD chart.
Tōken Ranbu: Hanamaru premiered on October 2, and just concluded this past Sunday. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan, and Funimation is streaming English broadcast dub episodes for the series.
Takashi Naoya (Luck & Logic co-director, Selector Infected Wixoss animation director) directed the series at Doga Kobo. Junichirō Taniguchi (Natsuyuki Rendezvous, Prison School) designed the characters, and Pierre Sugiura (Barakamon) wrote and oversaw the scripts. Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Eden of the East, Ranma ½) composed the music. Mitsuhiro Ichiki and Toshiki Masuda performed the opening theme song "Hanamaru◎Hiyori!" (Hanamaru Weather). The anime has a different ending theme song for each episode, performed by the show's cast.
