'your name.' Anime Film Earns 19.9 Billion Yen, Surpasses Howl's Moving Castle

(Kimi no Na wa.) anime film has earned 19,957,000,000 yen (about US$175.8 million) as of Sunday, surpassing the 19.6 billion yen earnings of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle anime film. The film has also sold 15,352,600 tickets as of Sunday, 101 days after it opened in Japan.
your name. ranked at #2 in its 15th weekend. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them again topped the chart in its second weekend at the Japanese box office.
your name. is now the the fifth highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, the second highest-grossing Japanese film in Japan, and the second highest-grossing anime film in Japan. The only Japanese film to gross higher is Spirited Away (30.8 billion yen).
Shinkai's latest film had topped the Japanese charts for nine straight weekends since it opened on August 26, and in its 10th weekend dropped to #2 to Death Note Light up the NEW world, before regaining the top spot in its 11th weekend, and it stayed at the top spot in its 12th and 13th weekends. The film dropped to #2 in its 14th weekend.
The live-action Museum film stayed at #3 in its fourth weekend. The film adapts Ryōsuke Tomoe's Museum (Museum: The Serial Killer is Laughing in the Rain) suspense horror manga.
Sunao Katabuchi's (Mai Mai Miracle, Black Lagoon) In This Corner of the World anime film rose from #6 to #4 in its fourth weekend. The Kantai Collection -KanColle- anime film fell from #5 to #6 in its second weekend.
Kuroko no Basuke Winter Cup Sōshū-hen: Tobira no Mukō (Kuroko's Basketball Winter Cup Compilation ~Crossing the Door~), the third compilation anime film of the television anime's Winter Cup arc, opened at #9. The film has a two-week limited screening in Japan from December 3-16.
The Death Note Light up the NEW world live-action film fell from #7 to #10 in its sixth weekend.
The live-action Oboreru Knife film fell from the top 10 chart during its fifth weekend.
