Calimero, the series about a black chick who wears an eggshell on his head, is getting a CG anime remake series on TV Tokyo starting on October 7. The series of 15-minute shorts will air at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.
Ayaka Asai will voice Calimero (pictured third from left in above image), Rumi Ookubo will voice Calimero's naive girlfriend Priscilla (pictured second from left), Kokoro Kikuchi will play the rash and easy-going Giuliano (pictured left), and Tooru Sakurai will play the troublemaker Peter (pictured right).
The new show will be the first time Calimero will be animated in CG, and the project is a collaboration between Japanese, Italian, and French studios.
Ignazio Colnaghi and the Pagot brothers co-created the original character in 1963. The character became popular in Italy after appearing on the Italian television show Carosello in the same year. Late Italian comic artist Carlo Peroni worked alongside the Pagot brothers to create the first 47-episode television anime series in 1974, which Toei produced. Toei also produced the 52-episode remake that aired in Japan from October 1992 to September 1993.
