Crunchyroll Adds Saki - Episode Side A TV Anime

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Adaptation of Ritz Kobayashi & Aguri Igarashi's manga to premiere on April 8

The media site Crunchyroll announced on Wednesday that it will begin streaming the Saki - Episode Side A (Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A) television anime on Sunday at 12:35 p.m. EDT. The series will be available to premium members outside Japan and free members in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. The anime will also premiere on Japan's TV Tokyo channel on the same day.

The anime adapts Aguri Igarashi's Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A manga, which is a spinoff of Ritz Kobayashi's original Saki high school mahjong manga. The story follows Shizuno Takakamo (Aoi Yūki) and the other mahjong players at the all-girls school Achiga.

The first Saki anime's Manabu Ono is once again directing at Studio Gokumi, which is composed of former staffers from Gonzo's fifth studio. Gonzo's fifth studio produced the first 14 episodes of the first Saki television anime in 2009, but Picture Magic took over for the rest of that earlier anime after Gonzo had to restructure.

Other returning staffers include assistant director Kenji Setō, series script editor and screenwriter Tatsuhiko Urahata, and character designer and chief animation director Masakatsu Sasaki. Bandai Visual's Lantis label is once again producing the music.

Update: Background information added.
