Doraemon: Shin Nobita to Tetsujin Heidan - Habatake Tenshi-tachi, Yukiyo Teramoto and Shinei Animation's remake of the 1986 film Doraemon: Nobita to Tetsujin Heidan (Doraemon: Nobita and the Platoon of Iron Men), opened at #1. It earned the equivalent of US$5,452,212 on 368 screens.
The first film in Shinsuke Satō's live-action adaptation of Hiroya Oku's Gantz action manga fell from #2 to #5 in its sixth weekend. It earned of US$1,100,874 on 410 screens to add to its total of US$37,200,865.
Macross Frontier: Sayonara no Tsubasa, the second anime film based on Shōji Kawamori and Satelight's Macross Frontier science-fiction series, dropped from #4 to #8 in its second weekend on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart. (It dropped from #3 to #7 on Box Office Mojo's chart.) It earned US$774,927 on 38 screens for a gross-to-date of US$3,417,093.
The live-action film version of Asao Takamori and Tetsuya Chiba's classic boxing manga Ashita no Joe dropped from #7 to #10 in its fourth weekend with US$542,407 on 277 screens. It now has a gross-to-date of US$11,454,273.
The live-action film adaptation of Mainichi Kaa-san also fell from #9 to #12 in its fifth weekend on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart. It earned US$237,187 on 134 screens. It now has a total of US$6,306,321.
