Curry Restaurant Will Team Up with GPS Satellite for Evangelion Campaign, Somehow

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Details are still hush hush but The Curry House CoCo Ichibanya (CoCo Ichi) restaurant chain is hinting at an upcoming campaign featuring Evangelion's Rei Ayanami and possibly a satellite. A teaser website opened on Tuesday and the campaign will launch on October 17.

Posters teasing the campaign include a QR code that link to a site with the the phrase "Michibiki x Evangelion x CoCoICHI." Three Michibiki satellites are currently in operation as part of the in-development Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) for global positioning services (GPS) within Japan. Michibiki launched first in 2010 and the entire system is expected to increase GPS accuracy. GZSS is operated by the Satellite Positioning Research and Application Center (SPRAC), which is in turn controlled by several government agencies.

The logo on the back of Rei's cellphone also belongs to QZSS, but coincidentally was designed by animation Studio Khara back in February. It's used on the rockets that send the satellites into space. The color scheme also looks very familiar.

How exactly a curry restaurant chain will work together with a GPS satellite is anyone's guess.

CoCo Ichi is known for collaborating with popular anime works like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Mobile Suit Gundam, and Lupin the Third.
