'Fantastic Anime Machine' Used in Elaborate DoCoMo Ad
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Back in the 90s there was an early educational game called The Incredible Machine that involved using tools to create Rube Goldberg machines to complete objectives. Or you could get into creative mode and imagine up whatever your heart desired. The staff at the gari-gari advertising company have done just that, investing over 80 hours and 400 takes to create an elaborate advertisement for the DoCoMo telecommunications company.
The "Fantastic Anime Machine" uses anime footage on screens, dominos, weights, and more to create what appears to be an interactive machine. The machine starts up with racers from Yowapeda shown on screens sliding across a track before they send Psycho-Pass's Akane down to shoot her Dominator...which starts up a real laser that pops a series of balloons. Mikasa avoids the jaws of snapping dentures, Shirobako's Aoi calls up My Love Story!!'s Takeo causing a real cellphone to vibrate. The video will definitely make you smile.
Overall the ad features 14 anime and 47 smartphone and tablet devices to pull it off.
