Sony Sells 6.20 Million PS4 Consoles During Holiday Season

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced on Thursday that it sold an estimated 6.20 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide during the holiday season. This brings the total number of PS4 consoles sold worldwide to an estimated 53.40 million units.
SIE defines the the holiday season time period as November 20 to January 1.
In addition, the number of PS4 game copies sold during the same time period reached an estimated 50.40 million copies. The sales include physical copies of games on Blu-ray Disc as well as digital downloads.
The PlayStation 4 had sold 40 million units as of last May, and 50 million units as of December. The console is the fastest to reach the 50 million milestone of any console under the PlayStation brand.
The PlayStation 4 console first launched in the U.S. and Canada in November 2013 and in Japan in February 2014. Sony sold 7.5 million PS4 units in fiscal year 2013, and 14.8 million units in fiscal year 2014.
