One of the segments in Short Peace got an Oscar nod. Also, Looper homaged Domu, so an official movie version may be out of the question.

Thanks for the article! I must finish Memories, I only watched "Magnetic Rose". So many interesting concepts here, I must find that one about elderly care someday.

What funny timing. I just found a set of the first part of Legend of Mother Sarah at an antique mall this past week (for cheap!) that I immediately picked up. I ordered a good chunk of parts 2 and 3 to finish it out and they're literally waiting for me at my mailbox as I type this.
I'm still salty about Roujin Z. I've only found it once in the wild, and they couldn't locate the disc for the case. So I've never gotten to own it, but I did see it an a convention one year and really loved it. That one seems like such a Discotek thing to license that I hope it gets picked up again one day. |

I found Memories some years ago for a reasonable amount, but I haven't managed to pick up Domu #2 unfortunately.
It's not available in English but you can get World Apartment Horror manga in Italy which Kon and Otomo worked on, the film is very cheesy but the manga is respectable. Otomo is one of my all time favourites and I hope we get to see Orbital Era soon. |

If anyone's interested, in preparation for this article I individually reviewed most of the movies mentioned, and here's a link to an index of those reviews:
https://doctorkev.medium.com/make-everything-e-x-p-l-o-d-e-the-other-works-of-akiras-katsuhiro-otomo-in-english-bdb55a4709c4 This article took a lot of work, not least tracking down some very out-of-print discs! |

Thanks, I've read the Steampunk review and it helped me to understand what is it and how it differs from some other works. |

Cannon Fodder is an exceptionally amazing piece of animation and art, which sadly always get overlooked by the more popular Magnetic Rose.

Glad to see Steamboy get some recognition and respect. This may well be an unpopular opinion, but as far as Otomo's works go I consider Steamboy a superior movie to Akira. It's far more cohesive, and far more objectively fun than people seem willing to give it credit for.
