I think the info here on Solomon is somewhat incorrect.

I thought that spoiler[Goetia is not Solomon from a certain point in time, it is the conglomerate of the demon gods Solomon summoned. They were entrusted to protect humanity after his death, and decided to do their own thing (demons, go figure) and interpreted "protecting" as "wiping out," since humans are imperfect. They called themselves Solomon and stole Solomon's body, but were not actually Solomon.]

FGO is confusing as heck.

I think you are correct. spoiler["Goetia"] thus becomes distinct from Solomon at that twist. What exactly Beasts are isn't quite accurate either, to my knowledge (they are less "sins" and more "corrupted affections" by my understanding. The villain here, for example, is "Pity")- and I can't fault anyone for either of those errors because they're kind of the far end of wacky Nasuverse nonsense. Well. Aside from the Moon Cell. That's a whole different level of nutty.

Yeah that's about it.
Ah, Solomon, such a mess of a movie and yet so endearing to me personally, who has spent far too long decoding Nasu lore. It's really an uplifting story, but one thing that I feel like the anime (and some other adaptations) doesn't capture quite as well with Nasu's work is that it's like [expletive] goofy as hell.

See, the thing with Nasu is that he loves to explore and ponder the human condition, but he also understand that being bugfuck ridiculous idiot is a key part of humanity that should never be forgotten. You get things like Ritsuka calling a wrestling move in the fight against Quetz, Romani getting catfished by Merlin masquerading as a VTuber, and Fou beating the fudge out of Merlin for little reason at all. Fate is full of the little absurdities and foibles of humans, and that honestly plays a key part in its central messaging. It's a shame the anime couldn't get that weird, earnest silliness in.

This is roughly correct, though with the additional modifier that spoiler[the "wiping out" of Humanity was just step one twords replacing us with a to-be-created superior humanity that wouldn't have to go through things like suffering or death. The incineration of human history was basically done to serve as a fuel source for that undertaking.]

As b-dragon said, spoiler[Goetia] is the "Sin of Pity", and basically views their actions as giving the current humanity a mercy kill.

Adding to Beasts not exactly mapping to sins as we think of them, Tiamat from Babylonia was Beast II, representing the "Sin of Regression" in that she was a mother whose love for her children twisted into refusing to allow them to grow up and leave the nest.

I find how almost glossed over Romani's sacrifice was kind of weird when it matters more than Mash's in the long run. Mash comes back like 10 minutes after she sacrificed herself but Romani is gone for good and is meant to be the actual star of the chapter. spoiler[also don't mention you know who, he's not Romani]

Big step down from Camelot 2, which had much more soul.

i just forgot to add that from a "technical" standpoint i really hated the multiple cameos because the servants would not talk at all, even playing the noble phantasm voice clips from the game would have been an improvement

Yeah, this difference starts to matter to the plotlines of Parts 1.5 and 2. spoiler[There's even that whole part 2 promo video that opens with a Goetia voiceover showing he knew what was about to happen and his whole scheme was supposed to prevent that. Let alone all the stuff about him showing up in Romani's form.]

Anime-only viewer here.

Like everyone, I thought "Avengers assemble", and even thought Godetia was doing a Thanos imitation, when he wasn't being Love Machine from Summer Wars.

Nasu cod-philosophy makes my eyelids droop, yet I keep coming back for more. Though there were many times when I was tempted to fast-forward, since all the soliloquys are pretty much nonsense.

Oh, so that's Romani's deal. There always seemed to be something going on with him that was waiting to be revealed.

There really should be more figures of Leonardo Da Vinci.

On the subject of Shuten, the near-complete lack of Eighth Pillar heroes (the folks that showed up in events but not main Singularities) also cost us GudaGuda content, which was the only other way Aoi Yuuki was going to be relevant (Tiamat's kaput and Jinako isn't showing up for a while). In retrospect it is interesting that they went with just Dantes and Fuuma Kotarou when the Eighth Pillar hero roster included fan favorites like Raikou, Shuten, and JAlter (they even already had Maaya Sakamoto in the recording booth!). On the other hand, it was nice seeing "lesser" Servants get moments in the sun, even if it was likely only because of the convenience of their VAs already being present for more important roles (Sakamoto doing Alexander, Mamoru Miyano doing Sanson, Miyuki Sawashiro doing Rama, who never talked but I think grunted a few times).

Good on the setup for reminding us all that Altera is A Super Powerful Badass, Actually, by the way. Also, the reference to David's Harp of fudge You meme strategy against Goetia was hilarious.

The one thing I disliked was purely selfish; my Gold Starter and most-treasured game unit is Stheno, but she was mysteriously absent from the Septem crew, despite Euryale and multiple Medusas getting to show up. Where's my girl, Nasu??? :(
