Looks like TMS really is serious about trying to get Conan back into America.

I ain't complaining. Wink

Was confused because there's only one, extremely long season of this show but I see now they're just throwing darts to decide what a season is now. Calling it "part 1" would be better

Calling it now, Discotek secretly licensed the show and Crunchyroll is putting it on streaming because of their deal. I mean, come on. They have two of the movies under their belt now, and several other properties they licensed were streaming on CR before they were announced as having been licensed. This has to be some sort of sign.

Yeah, the early, out-of-print seasons of Detective Conan seem right up Discotek's alley to rescue-license.

I’ve always wanted to watch Case Closed but it was hard to do with the length and Crunchyroll only starting in the middle but having it streaming from the beginning makes it much more convenient to watch. So I’m really excited about this.

If they were to re-release the series on DVD, I wonder if they would they keep the Funimation dub or redub with the new LA cast?

I seriously doubt they would go all the way back and dub from the beginning. That and it would have to be TMS footing the bill like they did for the new Lupin dubs.

Any re-release would likely include Funimation's dub.

Discotek is an "include all available dubs" sort of company, so I'm sure any re-release of Season 1 would include the FUNi dub.

But I am curious what they'll do for the releases beyond what FUNi dubbed. I would assume they'd be subbed-only but you never know. In any case, I'll just be happy if they're successful enough to continue.

Honestly I could see them posting all the episodes on crunchyroll finally, but they aren't going to be releasing the whole series on bluray.

Honestly I would love to see the reanimated/remastered episodes to be officially licensed

Honestly, they should just make it a subbed-only release. A dub for a series this long, and starting from so far behind would be an enormous investment of time and money. Not only that, they wouldn't be able to get most of the original cast back anyway (given how long it's been), so it would only upset people who loved the dub originally. Not only that, the original dub had a bunch of localization changes, so if they continue where they left off they would need to keep a lot of those changes, which could upset some people. And if they decide to do a faithful adaptation, they would need to redub the episodes they already did from the beginning, which could also upset people. And putting the dub on initial sets, and then not having it on later sets would only confuse and upset people. The whole dub situation is a complete mess that is best ignored. Maybe put them on crunchyroll, but putting them on the physical releases would be problematic.

Don't think so, all the other Discotek Media licenses that made it to Crunchyroll don't come to latin america and Conan will be available here, so I think it's more on the side of TMS.

TMS has been paying for dubs of the recent Conan movies. They're done by Bang Zoom, so everyone's been recast. The localized names have been dropped. Discotek is releasing these on home video.

I imagine any attempt at reviving a dub for the show is contingent on those selling very well, but even that's not a guarantee. Clearly there's an audience for Lupin stuff, but their dubs tend to focus on recent productions.
