Im super excited to see this. I loved the dog fights in this anime. Here's hoping they extend the fight scenes and cut back on the character development scenes. Also hoping they cut back on the music during the fight sequences so I can hear that sweeeeet engine sound.

...not getting this at all. A decent premise ruined with silly little stereotyped characters, and bafflingly mismatched anime formats (chara and mecha, etc.).

I enjoyed The Magnificent KOTOBUKI and I thought it was an under-rated hidden gem but I don't see the point of a compilation film when the show works just fine as it is. But maybe this will lead to a sequel movie or something?

Never saw any of this before today, but this description kinda reminds me of a twist on the old PC/XBox Crimson Skies games. Except it was set in the 1930s, had a male lead and the Nakajima Ki-43 was a real WWII-era plane. Yes, I am aware that the Xbox and those that followed sold horribly in Japan. But a few people bought it. Maybe the director was one of them.

Love this show, was just thinking about it today. Yeah, a lot of us were making Crimson Skies comparisons when it came out Smile

As usual, the point of making a compilation film is to get theater money. animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=5196270#5196270
I'd be very surprised if it got a sequel. I assume any ideas the creators had for one probably went into the sequel novel instead.

Speaking as someone who was involved in the attempt to make the _Crimson Skies_ 2nd ed. boardgame: Yeah, I was also hoping this series would get better coverage. I could find exactly *one* website doing *any* substantive commentary on it at all; and the commenters clearly did not have the background needed to grasp the material. So I'm a little surprised it's getting a film, given how thoroughly it's been memory-holed.

The kotobuki game must be doing well. That and the shorts are still airing so theres still some stuff keeping it relevant.
